“You hear: ‘I have to go to the hospital, and we had to take the baby here and there…’ These are parents that, eventually, are going to be missing paychecks. The strain is enormous. Today, Poarch is coming in and taking the place of what neighbors and family did years ago when a family was coping with a premature birth. With the support of Poarch and other donors, March of Dimes will be able to figure out why these kids come early.”
The March of Dimes helps ensure mothers have full-term pregnancies and researches the problems that threaten the health of babies. Steve Kermish is a volunteer board member and has served for 15 years as chair of the Citizen of the Year event which honors individuals whose distinguished leadership and service contribute greatly to the quality of life for the people of Alabama.
