THPO Department Attends Thlopthlocco Tribal Town Bridge Commemoration

The Poarch Creek Indians Tribal Historic Preservation Office, represented by THPO Billy Bailey and Clayton Coon, was honored to attend a recent bridge commemoration near Shorter in Macon County, Alabama. The bridge is located on Thlopthlocco Branch and was recognized in connection with Thlopthlocco Tribal Town, which is in Okemah, Oklahoma.
We were pleased to share this meaningful occasion with Mr. David Frank, Tribal Historic Preservation Officer for Thlopthlocco Tribal Town, along with Tribal Town Council members Tanya Walker and Tracey Johnson. Their presence helped make the commemoration an important opportunity to recognize the history and continued connection of Thlopthlocco Tribal Town to this area.
Gatherings such as this allow Tribal Nations to come together, honor shared history, and recognize the importance of preserving places tied to our ancestors. They also provide an opportunity to strengthen communication and build lasting relationships between Tribal communities.
The Poarch Creek Indians THPO Department is working diligently to build and maintain positive relationships with other tribes. Through cooperation, communication, and mutual respect, we can better support one another and continue protecting the history, cultural resources, and heritage of our people for future generations.
