“It takes a community to support an effort like this. And it takes a group like Poarch to help sponsor what we do. I cannot tell you the number of diagnoses that have left women in need of hope and care. Without the support of our doctors, the Tribe, our community, and our volunteers, I don’t believe we would be sitting here today.”
—Maria Ashmore, Founder & Martha Smith, Volunteer, Women of Hope

Founded in 2006 by breast cancer survivor Maria Ashmore, Women of Hope is an organization of caring and compassionate women dedicated to providing hope and encouragement to patients and families surviving a breast cancer diagnosis. The organization also promotes awareness about devastating effects of this disease. As Maria describes their work: “It’s a sorority you don’t want to join; but it’s also a sisterhood you never want to leave.”
