Madison and Blake dance in the Tribe’s Annual Thanksgiving Pow Wow, as well as other pow wows that take place across the US. These gatherings of dancing, singing, and fostering friendships are a way to renew and preserve the rich heritage of indigenous people. Madison traditionally dances “Jingle,” a healing prayer dance that she dedicates to those who are sick or who have passed. Blake dances the Northern Great Plains “Grass Dance” thought to symbolize flattening the grass for a ceremony, dance or battle. The intention behind the dances, as well as the rhythm, bring these dancers to a place of joy, catharsis and connection.
