Amber’s parents and grandparents were hardworking people who, like most Tribal members, were simply trying to survive during difficult economic times. During those challenging years before sovereignty was granted, traditions, crafts, language and stories were lost. As Poarch has become self-sufficient, opportunities for Tribal members to rediscover the missing links to their personal history have expanded. Today, Amber is engaged with Colby, as well as her other children, in the fulfilling process of learning about their culture. Exploring her lost heritage has brought a sense of self-worth, dignity, wisdom and belonging.
