Tribal Government Accounting
Tribal Government Accounting provides all aspects of accounting for funds under Tribal Government including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger. They are responsible for the following funds: Tribal Government, Recreation, Utilities Authority, SAIL, Poarch Volunteer Fire Department, Tobacco Tax (Firefighter’s Special Fund), Tribal Court (court-ordered payments), Scholarship Fund, Education Trust Fund, Seizure Fund (police investigation), Calvin McGhee Cultural Center and Housing.
Tribal Government Accounting also oversees Property Management. This includes providing inventory control of all equipment belonging to the Tribe and maintains a storage area for all excess property. They also review and stay current on federal regulations and property management.
All new equipment is properly identified and tagged when purchased and is added to the appropriate departmental inventory list. Tribal Government Accounting is responsible for conducting Audit Reports and Inventory Checks with regulatory agencies and maintaining all inventory records, including condition and location of property. An inventory of all property is made by the Property Management Office on an annual basis. Inventory reports are then submitted to the CFO. Excess property is disposed of according to federal requirements, which includes a closed bid process.
The Federal Accounting Department is responsible for the controlling aspect of all of the Federal and State Funds allocated to the Poarch Creek Indians. It is this department’s responsibility to ensure that these funds are expended according to Federal specifications and regulations. Currently, there are approximately 50 contracts that fall under this department.
