Emma Ruth first learned finger weaving from a Cherokee woman in the1970s. Having mastered the craft, she now teaches it to girls entering the Poarch Princess Contest who are making their own regalia and belts and connecting with their culture in the process. Originally worn by men, these belts were made of long grass and dyed with berries in the colors of nature
