Eddie L. Tullis

Mr. Eddie L. Tullis has served on the Tribal Council of the Poarch Creek Indians for over 40 years, and currently holds the position of Treasurer. He was the Tribal Chairman for 27 of those years, from 1978-2005, and also served as Vice Chairman of Creek Indian Enterprise Development Authority (CIEDA). Mr. Tullis is a leader not only for his Tribe, but also in Indian Country, as shown in the many national leadership roles he has held throughout the years, representing the interests that impact the welfare of the American Indian people. Mr. Tullis is involved in many ways for his Tribe and serves on many boards and committees, these include: PCI Land and Natural Resources Legislative Committee, CIEDA, Chairman of the National Indian Council of Aging (NICOA), Vice Chairman of Americans for Indian Opportunities (AIO), Board of Director for the National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA), Board of Director for Reid State Community College Foundation, Board of Director for the Alabama Indian Affairs Commission, Board of Director for the Alabama Archives and History Foundation, Board of Director for the Portland State University Institute of Tribal Government.

Mr. Tullis set an excellent example of Indian leadership through past involvement of the following national organizations: Chairman of National Advisory on Indian Education (NACIE) for 2 terms – Presidential Appointed; Board of Director for the White House Conference on Indians Education – Presidential Appointed; President of the Coalition of Eastern Native Americans (CENA); First Vice-President of the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI); President of the Indian and Native Alaskan Employment and Training Coalition; Chairman of the Northwest Florida Creek Indian Council; President of the Escambia County Young Republican Committee; Board of Director for the Native American Rights Fund (NARF); Vice-President and Secretary on the Board of Directors for the United South and Eastern Tribes (USET); Board of Director for the National Historic Trail of Tears Commission; Committee Member of the Native American Housing and Self Determination Act (NAHASDA) Negotiated Rule Making Committee; and served on the American Indian and Alaska Native Advisory Committee for the United States Census.

Mr. Tullis was born in 1938 in Mobile, Alabama to Volt and Florence Walker Tullis. He graduated from Ernest Ward High School and attended Faulkner State College in Bay Minette, Alabama after serving in the U.S. Navy from which he was honorably discharged. He was employed for more than thirty-five years with Monsanto Company and retired on February 1, 1991.

Mr. Tullis is married to Mary Jane McGhee Tullis. They have four daughters, 14 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
