Dewitt Carter is serving his first term as a Tribal Council Member on the Poarch Creek Indians Tribal Council. Having grown up in the Poarch Community, with a strong belief and value system instilled in him by his family to work hard, always be honest, and help one another, Dewitt brings those same values to his service on the Tribal Council. After graduating from Escambia County High School in Atmore, AL, Dewitt enlisted in the U.S. Airforce where he served for five years. He also attended college in Colorado Springs, CO, then eventually moved back home to his much-loved Alabama. Now, as a local business owner for more than 13 years, he prides himself in supporting those in Poarch and the surrounding community.
Dewitt has two children Alyson and DJ, and is the son of Dewitt Sells and Grace Philyaw, and the grandson of Joe Philyaw, Jr. and Eugene and Roberta Sells.
